Primary sources DOJ OPA indictment release (14 Oct 2025); OFAC/Treasury designations; June 2026 OFAC follow-on against Prince Group TCO network. Allegations are from charging documents and sanctions actions unless a conviction is stated.

1. The core allegation

An indictment unsealed in federal court in Brooklyn charged Chen Zhi, then 37, a Cambodian national and founder/chairman of Prince Group, with wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering conspiracy for directing the group’s operation of forced-labor scam compounds across Cambodia.

As alleged, workers held against their will in those compounds ran cryptocurrency investment fraud schemes — commonly called pig butchering (sha zhu pan) — and other fraud. Prince Group is described as a multinational conglomerate operating dozens of entities in more than 30 countries, with Chen as chairman since about 2015.

2. Sanctions, seizure, and 2026 follow-through

In October 2025 the U.S. and UK moved together against Prince Group as a transnational criminal organization. U.S. announcements around the same package described a massive cryptocurrency seizure linked to the schemes — publicly framed as among the largest asset seizures in U.S. history (reports cited roughly $15 billion in bitcoin value at announcement time). Singapore and Taiwan also reported large related asset freezes in secondary coverage.

In January 2026, Chinese authorities said Chen had been arrested in Cambodia and taken into custody in China. In June 2026, Treasury’s OFAC sanctioned additional individuals and entities linked to the Prince Group TCO — including leadership, compound investors, and front companies — while FinCEN moved on payment-rail nodes historically used to consolidate scam proceeds (Huione-related actions).

3. How compound scams work (desk anatomy)

The DOJ theory is not “one bad call center” — it is that a holding-group structure allegedly industrialised fraud while using political and commercial legitimacy as camouflage.

4. Red flags for anyone who might be a victim

5. Why Scam Wire is covering this

Prince Group is the template case for industrial-scale pig butchering: forced labor + crypto rails + multi-jurisdiction sanctions. It connects victim losses in the West to compound geography in Southeast Asia and to U.S. forfeiture/sanctions tools.
